Arsenal in contact with Middlesbrough ahead of Liverpool clash: Champions League at stake

The Gunners are in desperate need of a favour from already relegated Boro as they travel to Liverpool.

Amid the fight for Champions League qualification, Arsenal are hoping the fourth-placed Reds slip up at Anfield.

Arsene Wenger's side sit one point behind Liverpool and are two goals worse off.

Manchester City are also in the mix but have a greater advantage, three points above Arsenal and five goals in front.

While the Gunners' focus tomorrow will be on beating Everton at the Emirates, fans will have an eye on Liverpool and Boro, with a play-off still possible too.

And Arsenal even effectively have an agent on the inside in defender Chambers.

He's an Arsenal player and he might have a few texts

The 22-year-old has spent the season on loan at the Riverside, and Arsenal will be hoping he can help do the club a huge favour.

Boro manager Agnew said: "He's an Arsenal player and he might have a few texts come through from his team-mates there and they will all be supportive.

"I'm sure they'll discuss it in the dressing room.

"Calum will be doing his very best to put on a top performance for us, he's been top class this season.

"I think he's got a really bright future in front of him. He's a wonderful boy to work with, a top professional."

Arsene Wenger has sent his own message to Boro, pleading for a big effort on the final day, but insists Arsenal are not their only motivation.

He said: "What you want is that all teams have a go and they fight. I think, traditionally in England, you have that. Hopefully that will be the case.

"Everybody will be under scrutiny, so you just want the teams like Everton to fight against us, Middlesbrough to fight against Liverpool, Watford to fight against City. That's what you want."
