Report: Bears weren't the only team to offer a trade to 49ers for No. 2 pick
This should ease some of the criticism aimed at Bears general manager Ryan Pace.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the 49ers, who traded the No. 2 overall pick to the Bears in order for Chicago to take Mitchell Trubisky, had another serious offer for that second pick.
The Bears' deal, Rapoport said in a tweet, was the best deal.
There isn't any word on what that deal could have been, nor which team was offering, but it seems that Pace was right in trading up to get Trubisky after all.
After the selection, continuous criticism rained down on Pace as many thought John Lynch and the 49ers had duped the Bears into trading away mid-round picks in the 2017 and 2018 draft.
Should Rapoport's report be something of substance and not some draft day smokescreen (not saying it was, but you can never be too sure on draft weekend) then pressure on Pace should alleviate itself almost immediately.
Pace was in the right to trade up and get his guy, which could alter the future of the franchise for years to come.
