Johnny Manziel to the Jets would be a disaster waiting to happen

Johnny Football is back in the news.

The former first-round pick has reportedly re-hired his agent in an effort to make a comeback after a series of off-field incidents derailed his once promising career.

Manziel has reportedly been working out at the combine and as a result of his workouts, he has been drawing "real interest from teams."

The Jets cannot be one of those teams.

This isn't about Manziel the football player, this is about everything that comes with Manziel.

He is only 24 and there's a good chance that the talent that made him a first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2014 is still there, but is it really worth it?

In Manziel's short NFL career, he has been suspended for a substance-abuse and has had to deal with a misdemeanor assault charge after he was accused of hitting and threatening his ex-girlfriend.

Manziel claims that he has been on the straight and narrow as of late and that could very well be true, but there will always be a cloud hanging over Manziel.

Many will always view him as the party animal who got all caught up in the hype and there would be a legitimate concern that if Manziel was to come to the Jets that the New York night-life would be too tempting for him to resist.

And let's not forget the media frenzy that signing Manziel would bring.

To be fair, the major media outlets are going to follow Manziel everywhere regardless of what team he goes to, just like they follow former Jets QB and now New York Mets outfielder Tim Tebow's every move.

We saw it when Tebow came to the Jets in 2012. The media was all over the place and it got to the point where it became a major distraction.

After a year where the Jets dealt with plenty of off-field problems in their own right, the last thing that they need in 2017 is a media craze at training camp.

If Manziel is able to make a comeback and make something of his career, it would undoubtedly be a great story. While the quarterback-needy Jets could be tempted to be a part of that story, it would probably be best for both parties if they are not.
