Russell Wilson has a sprained MCL, not expected to miss time
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has been diagnosed with an MCL sprain, head coach Pete Carroll confirmed on Monday morning. He will most likely not miss next week's game against the Jets as he recovers.
The Seahawks had such a commanding lead when Wilson suffered a knee injury against the 49ers that it was an easy decision to sideline Wilson for the rest of the game. The team initially thought the injury was a sprained MCL, according to The MMQB's Albert Breer. Wilson underwent an MRI Sunday night, and it confirmed the initial diagnosis.
Wilson has been recovering from an ankle sprain, and added this injury when 49ers linebacker Eli Harold made contact with Russell's right leg while taking him to the turf. Wilson's leg bent at an odd angle and left the game briefly, though he did return.
Once the Seahawks had a comfortable lead, Wilson was pulled from the game and replaced by backup Trevone Boykin despite Wilson's objections. Boykin finished the day with seven passes for 65 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Seattle beat San Francisco, 37-18.
Wilson was characteristically optimistic about the injury when speaking to reporters after the game.
"I don't think it's severe as it looked," Wilson said. "I have good mobility. You always feel better when you win."
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said after the game that Wilson had sprained his knee "a little bit." Carroll said that Wilson was planning to play against the Jets in Week 4.
"He's in good spirits, just like you would think," Carroll said. "He has no intention of thinking anything other than that he's playing."
Carroll also confirmed that Wilson is still rehabbing the ankle injury he suffered in Week 1, but said his quarterback had made progress with his recovery.
"His ankle looked terrific today," Carroll said. "He looked almost perfect in pregame. So that's a great recovery there."
Since being drafted by the Seahawks in the 2012 NFL Draft, Wilson has never missed a start.
